AITA for thinking it’s important for white people to speak out against injustices?
Hello everyone this is a throwaway. I had recent events happen in my life and i just want to get some feedback. I believe it is important as a white person to speak out against injustices happening in this world such as racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. it is my belief that as a white person it is my job to speak out against the oppression and discrimination happening to marginalized communities because a lot of the time it is coming from people who share the same skin color as myself. i want to advocate for those less privileged and by educating myself, speaking to those of color, i can take those experiences i’ve learned from those who are living everyday dealing with these injustices i can teach others around me and battle against the racism and misinformation.
i have been told recently “colonizers think they can educate on this topic” and i understand where these people are coming from but it is in my opinion such a hateful comment to make. it hurts the battle we face as a society to stop these atrocities from happening. i believe being able to see the differences in the way people think allow for an opportunity to educate and advocate. not shut people out and ignore and create a further divide.
if i have the wrong take, please share and allow me to be educated on why how i am thinking is wrong.
