Independent SD card for homebrew?

I have a V1 Switch, managed to mod it just to see if I could, but stopped afterwards because I had no idea where to get homebrew apps. Inwas thinking of doing it again, now that I have some options, but I was wondering if I should have a separate SD card for it or run it along the SD card with my official software?
