La vie à Genève 🇫🇷

Question (sans lien avec l'immigration)

English

Hello everyone,
I’m Czech and I’m planning to move to Switzerland, specifically Geneva. I would like to work there as a chef/cook, ideally in the garde-manger / cold kitchen, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people in the industry about where and how to start.
I’m 26 years old. My English is around C1–C2, more realistically C1, and I’m currently learning French. I’m somewhere between A1 and A2 and slowly progressing towards B1.
I have experience with à la carte service, buffets, cold kitchen and breakfast service. Overall, I have around 10 years of experience in hospitality and gastronomy. I started when I was 16, when I attended culinary school.
At this point, I’m mainly looking for a new life experience, but also for new professional experiences that I can add to my career and my chef portfolio.
I’d therefore like to ask people who work in the hospitality industry in Geneva, or who have experience there, especially as foreigners:
How are foreign cooks/chefs generally perceived in Switzerland?
What have your personal experiences been working in hospitality in Geneva?
What would you consider the bare minimum that every cook/chef should be able to do, know or have?
How important is French when working in a professional kitchen?
Is it true that some hotels or restaurants provide accommodation for their employees, especially kitchen staff? Or is that more of a myth?
I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences or recommendations on where to start looking for a job and what I should be aware of.
Thank you very much! 😊
