Really scared and need help
39F SE Michigan
I'm incredibly scared and ashamed.
This is the situation: my boyfriend (33M) and I took over the mortgage of his deceased father's house in 2022. We got behind, it went into foreclosure, and we have only a couple of weeks before we will be homeless.
We work at the same company due to us having only one vehicle, but we have recently been laid off and can't apply for unemployment because we haven't been there long enough. We also don't have any benefits (PTO, et cetera) due to how they have a separate company that essentially acts as a temp agency (this place has revolving doors.) We're down to our last $50, and we're both terrified.
We want to do DoorDash in the meantime, but the back axle brakes are at 4 mm, and one of the front tires is so badly balding that it's causing the steering wheel to slightly shake. We just had the front brakes and rotors done, and that was $580. We have been applying at local places because of the car situation which limits our opportunities. We've had no luck with finding new work so far.
We're down to our last bit of shampoo that's also doubling as bodywash. Our neighbor has kindly offered us some groceries. If it wasn't for him, we'd have nothing.
We also have our two cats that we love. We prioritize them having food over us. We're coming upon a time where we may be living in our car that at this point we can't even afford. There's definitely a risk that we get so far behind on that they repossess it. I don't want to surrender them but I can't make them suffer with us.
I'm looking for any and all help, please.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
