My mom (36F) got caught cheating because of something I (17F) mentioned to my dad. Now she’s giving me the silent treatment, blaming me for her divorce, and I'm terrified to be alone with her.
I desperately need some perspective and practical advice on how to navigate this situation, as the tension in my house is getting unbearable.
My mom has been a serial cheater for as long as I can remember (since I was around 5 years old). Right now, she’s in contact with multiple men, and recently she actually took MY car late at night to go meet up with one of them. She left me at home to babysit my three younger siblings (16M, 12M, 5F) while my dad was away.
While she was out, she mentioned to me that the guy was using some scanner tool on my car. Later on, when my parents were at the store, my dad brought up this scanner detail to her. My mom immediately realized that I was the one who told my dad about her late-night trip in my car.
She called me in a rage, and when they got home, an explosive argument broke out. She openly blamed me for ruining her marriage and told me she no longer trusts me. Since then, she’s been completely ignoring me, acting incredibly passive-aggressive, and intentionally excluding me—like feeding my siblings while completely ignoring whether I’ve eaten or not.
My dad and brother keep telling me it's not my fault that she got caught, but the atmosphere at home is terrifying. I feel like I'm walking on landmines. I'm homeschooled, and with my dad going back to work, I'm terrified she is going to unleash all her anger on me when we're left alone, making it impossible for me to focus on my schoolwork or even function.
I have never had a good relationship with her, but now it feels like any minimal progress is totally destroyed. How do I cope with living in the same house as a parent who is actively hostile toward me? How can I protect my mental space and keep up with my schooling when the home environment is this toxic?
