Hard mode

Because I'm a masochist at heart, I decided to play this game on hard for a 1st blind playthrough. I just passed the second boss that looks like green mutated flower horse. Any tips for skills/ upgrades I should focus on first? Any combat tips? I would greatly appreciate it
