Do someone have an idea what Mei Shi's spiecies is?

I mean, all he did is judge Hawk Moth and Fei.

I know that he is a Guardian of The Prodigius but if his spiecies would be the judges od owners of Magical items, but neither the Miracle Box or the Native American Miracle Box had one do what dose he do?

Is he artificial or something?
