Good online visual materials of social cues and body language?
Hey, I am 29M and have Aspergers, but i didn't know that until a while ago. It opened up a whole new world for me, I begin to understand a lot of things now. Previously, I was just minding my own business and thought everyone was probably similar to me, but now I realize my thinking and social behaviour are a lot different from others and I just missed the cues. It feels like driving without knowing the existence of roadsigns.
I am intelligent and love logic, so when a problem arises, I try to study it intensely. But with body language it's a little harder, because due to work I can't currently go outside a lot. So I would appreciate any online-learning materials. But I found it super hard to find visual materials. Because with only written stuff, I have issues associating the words to what it really means in person. I need to see things.
I also work on self-esteem issues and make progress there already.
Problems I have identified:
- struggle with eye contact
- overexplaining to avoid being labelled (I think outside the box and pidgeonholing happened a lot in the past)
- always talking about my experiences, ask too few questions about them
- try to salvage conversations when it should be time to quit them -> because i can't identify peoples body language showing disinterest
-jealousy when others take attention
- cant enjoy other peoples positive experiences a lot of the time. It's just indifferent to me. Until i think about it later, then sometimes the emotions show up.
- way too logical discussions, it creates walls that repell other people from expressing themselves freely
- inner critic shaming me "you act inappropriate, you are a creep, you are unprofessional" even if in life i try to act only with good intention
Solutions i want to try out:
- be genuinely interested in them ( i kinda am, just in the rush of the moment i wasn't)
- write down questions i forgot to ask, to get a better profile of good questions to ask
- do not overload the listener
