Nonfiction wildlife/personal journey book that references Walden by Thoreau

UNSOLVED

I was in the hospital for a few days back in Oct. 2022, and my one comfort was this nonfiction book they had. It was probably from a small or local-to-the-author press (I don’t remember where he lived). It was about his reconnection with nature and wildlife, and reflected on Walden quite a bit. I think I remember it was almost kind of intended to be a response to Walden, rather than references being sprinkled in. There was a chapter about coyotes and how they started creeping farther into city centers. I believe he talked about a wife and children, and their large property. It was not a biography of Thoreau but did talk about his life some. Not science-heavy. Unfortunately, those are all the details I remember and am 90% or more sure about.

I cannot seem to put the right search words together to find this book. I’ve been thinking about it for nearly 4 years now. It was a busy time, and I didn’t write the title down. Thank you in advance for any titles or ideas to expand my search!!
