I secretly threw away something valuable because I was too embarrassed to admit I broke it
A few months ago, I accidentally damaged something expensive that belonged to someone in my household. It wasn't completely ruined, but fixing it would have been possible if I had admitted what happened immediately.
Instead, I panicked and hid it.
A few days later, I realized nobody had noticed, so I made the situation worse. I quietly threw the damaged item away and acted like I had no idea where it went.
Nobody ever confronted me about it, and I still haven't admitted what I did.
The worst part is that replacing it cost much more than repairing it would have, all because I was too embarrassed to say, "I broke it."
I know hiding it was much worse than the original mistake, and I still feel guilty whenever I think about it.
