Can’t talk to landlord, only to agent. Signing rental agreement twice?
Moving into private accommodation with 3 flatmates and the situation has progressively gotten more annoying.
We sent the holding deposit (one weeks rent) at the end of June and the agent made up a contract (didn’t require signatures) which basically stated the terms ie within 28 days contract should be signed, we can’t drop out now or we will lose the deposit etc (the usual).
Fast forward to mid august, and the contract is yet to be signed through no fault of our own. He said that they won’t forfeit the deposit which was reassuring but there’s constant delays in communication.
Agent didn’t even get round to sending us the tenancy agreement till end of July (a day before the 28 day deadline) we signed beginning of August but now we have to re-sign another tenancy agreement because apparently the wrong bank details were on the first.
Obviously we are carefully reading through this new tenancy agreement in case he slipped anything in there, but it seems good.
We are just not sure if the agent constantly pushing back deadlines due to busyness, communication delays w/ landlord etc is due to negligence/ un professionalism or if it’s something nefarious. Throughout this whole process, we have had no contact with the Landlord. Is that even normal? I get that the landlord must have multiple properties, that was evident. But I really do want to have a proper word with the agent/ landlord regarding these delays but I’m not sure how to phrase it.
