Anyone else feel like a lot of us are kind of lost and don't know where we're headed?
I feel like I still don't know what I'm supposed to be at 34 years old. There's really no clear idea. I can name things I enjoy, and I know certain parts of my personality well, but when it comes to a work path or career path, I feel like I'm completely standing still.
Does anyone else feel like our generation is living with less purpose than we expected? I'm not trying to be negative or bring the mood down.
And I don't mean for this to become a depression spiral or doom spiral either. I've just started noticing that more people around me seem to be barely getting through the workday so they can go home and disappear into anything that helps them disconnect. Not exactly miserable, but not happy either. Just watching the clock until they can leave.
In my opinion, aside from the job market being harder than people admit, a lot of us don't really know who we are. I've been talking to career counselors for a while and making lists of the things I'm good at, the things that drain me, the things I'm genuinely interested in, and the kind of life I imagine for myself. It seems simple, but honestly it turned out to be more useful than endlessly scrolling through job boards and getting stressed.
I don't think we all have to "follow our passion" in the overused way people say it. Maybe it's more about choosing something you're naturally good at, something that grabs your attention, or a skill you can build until you reach mastery in it. And if it turns out not to be the right thing, you can adjust. You're not signing your life away forever.
It can happen. I hope every one of you who feels as purposeless as I do right now finds the job, business, skill, or direction that gives you enough freedom and meaning to truly enjoy your life and hobbies. The most important thing is to move in any direction. We've got this.
