I made an open-source way to monitor AND control my Gravity Series from Home Assistant
Love my Gravity 800, but I wanted it properly in Home Assistant — not just "is it on," but real monitoring and control. Nothing out there did control, so I built it.
What you can do with it
- See grill temp, all 4 meat probes and their targets, fan/heat %, signal, and errors
- Actually set temperatures from HA — grill target and each probe target
- Browse every past cook as a graph, pulled from Masterbuilt's cloud at ~10-second resolution — even cooks from before you set it up
- Get an alert for the annoying failure where the WiFi drops but the grill keeps cooking (the app just shows "off" — this catches it)
- A clean dashboard card with the live cook, a graph, and the temperature controls
How (short version): the smoker talks to Masterbuilt's cloud over WiFi. I worked out how the app reads and writes to it, and wired that into Home Assistant. Getting control working meant capturing exactly how the app sends a setpoint and replicating it — then testing on my own grill: set a temp from HA, watched the smoker change, set it back.
Fair warnings
- Unofficial and cloud-based (needs internet + Masterbuilt's servers), so no offline control.
- On/off isn't included on purpose — I didn't want a guessed command lighting or killing a live fire. It's monitoring + temperature control.
- Not affiliated with Masterbuilt.
Free and open source. If you run Home Assistant, it installs through HACS:
- github.com/lucvan/masterbuilt-gravity-ha (the integration)
- github.com/lucvan/masterbuilt-cook-card (the dashboard card)
Built on top of an existing community project (credit to the original author). Happy to help anyone get it going.
