Some tips for a new player

Hello. I’m trying out the game on switch. Been very into dead cells and I’ve seen people recommend this for those looking into similar games. Guess I’m just a bit overwhelmed with all the things you pick up. Sorry don’t know the terminology for things very well yet.

In dead cells there’s a description for everything in game and nothing is particularly detrimental. Definitely not the case here. Is there a way to tell what you are picking up is? Or like a page to show what you’ve discovered so far that I’ve missed? Do you just pick up everything in the beginning and just hope for the best? Any tips would be very appreciated. Thanks.
