Advice regarding a perianal abscess (?)
So, many years ago I noticed a lump close to my anus. It didn’t much concern me as it never caused any issues and for years just laid dormant. That all changed somewhere around late 2023, when it became enlarged and extremely painful. I was pretty much bed bound for a month as I could not stand/walk/sit etc etc. Eventually it did return to the small, painless lump that was there before. I did think it may return one day, but assumed it’d be several years down the line. To my unpleasant surprise, it ballooned back up in early June 2025. I had all the same issues as beforehand, though was lucky in the sense it only lasted around 2 weeks before it shrunk back down this time. If the previous time gap is indicative of anything… I’m starting to worry a third flare up is on the horizon. I’ve thought about going to the doctor, but I fear it will be a futile trip as I am almost certain they will not surgically remove it because it is currently benign. And so I imagine they will just tell me to return “if” it ever fills back up again (though I know full well it is not a matter of if, but rather a matter of when). I simply can not wait until this thing fills back up again so with all this in mind, I have had to consider the possibility of trying to remove this thing myself. I expect I will be advised against attempting this, but I do not want the humiliation of having a Doctor prod around at such a private area just to tell me the surgeons will not remove it. Any advice on what to do is appreciated. And whilst I doubt anyone will encourage me to do this surgery myself, I will have no other option if my suspicions that the NHS won’t remove it is true.
