What actually convinces them to reach out?

I'm at the point (9 months post-discard) where I know I can't organize my life around whether she returns or not. But it's amazing all the stories I hear about FA's returning after months or even years apart.

What actually convinces them to come back? Why does it happen so suddenly sometimes as I've read?
