Fibroadenomas keep coming back for the 4th time
I’m 22 years old, and I’ve had 3 breast surgeries throughout my life. Each time, the pathology results confirmed that the lumps were fibroadenomas that had grown too large.
Before my third surgery, the fibroadenomas showed unusually rapid growth, which made my doctors concerned that they could possibly be phyllodes tumors. However, after the biopsy, they were again classified as fibroadenomas.
It has now been 5 months since my last surgery, and I have another checkup scheduled in about a month. However, I feel like the fibroadenomas in my left breast have grown significantly again in a short period of time. I’m worried that my doctor may recommend another surgery, but honestly, I’m not sure I’m ready to go through a 4th surgery.
I wanted to ask if anyone here has experienced something similar:
- Multiple recurring fibroadenomas that keep growing after removal?
- Were there any alternatives to repeated surgeries?
- Has anyone tried other treatments or management options?
I would also like to understand whether leaving fibroadenomas in place carries any risk of them turning into cancer, or if there are other risks associated with keeping them.
