When to apply for Uni?

Taking ib exam in Nov this year. I wonder how many of you are actually applying uk Uni based on predicted score this October? I need to server the nation for 2 years and seems like most of my friends are not applying this year and they find it weird that I am applying. I wanted to tried med school. Any advise? Thank you.
