Hotel Recommendations near/convenient to Kyoto University?

Hello! My coworker and I are heading to Kyoto in September for a conference at Kyoto University. We are staying for 5 nights, and there are just so many choices of where to stay; we are getting a bit overwhelmed, especially trying to figure out what is within walking distance or convenient to public transit. We're not looking to pay more than $200 per night / $1000 total. The main thing we care about is having two separate beds - I don't think we'll be staying in the rooms for much.

How did you all make your decisions?? TIA!
