Yamaha Virago 535 1993 EU - weak spark, bogging acceleration - worse with lights on, can't give more than around 20 % throttle.
Hello.
A few months ago I acquired a 1993 virago 535, im based in the EU if there is something specific about them.
when I got the bike it ran really good. no issues just cruising all day. In the past few weeks I have began to notice that the bike had a bogging acceleration, so I did a service, new spark plugs, fuel filter, oil, and oil filter. It ran really nice again, then it began the bogging acceleration again ! now even worse than the last time. It haven't left me stranded out on the road I have always come back home. I use the bike to commute to work, so it is pretty annoying aha.
It also does some backfiring and afterfiring SOMETIMES and not always. I opened to the floats to check if there was gunk in there but it seems okay.
Battery seems okay ? holding a fine charge through perhaps not so extravagant testing. could maybe bad connection somewhere idk.
The "can't give more than 20 % throttle" comes from that sometimes it seems while applying more throttle it stops accelerating it begins almost a "droning / more hollow sound" sorry can't post a video since it happens while riding and a don't have any cameras to do it. And on top of that this happens even more with the lights turned to the on position.
I have chatted a lot with Claude and gave specific directions on how to look it up (only through a Haynes manual and general knowledge) It thinks that it could be the stator ? but im quiet spectacle due to the bike running fine only weeks ago.
Tho sometimes when I cold start it seems to be running fine and no bogging on the acceleration. I have tested that if it worked fine with the lights on during these well running moments and it seems to change on what mood the bike is in.
Really I don't think its a major issue hopefully a okay nice cheap and manageable job to do.
If some more knowledgeable people can help me out it would be fantastic!
Thanks in advance.
