conflicted about where to take career

opinion

Hey,

so here’s the situation with a TLDR at the bottom

I graduated with a compsci degree and got very lucky to get hired as internal IT with a well established medical company. The pay is fairly high for IT, in the 65-80k range starting. I’ll make around 80 this year but my base is around 75 and cap is just touching 6 figures. Anyways,

I also have my security + and am working on cloud certs and ccna. i want to be a network engineer, or something related to cloud networking / security.

the issue is that I know i should be job hopping around the 2-3 year mark to get to where i want, but this company makes it hard to leave. the benifit package is GREAT, the pay is very decent and above all, job security here is all but set in stone. beyond this, the company is very well off with money and currently working on major expansions.

im aware some will say just move up here, but there are few network and security jobs here (maybe combined total of 12) and there is internal and external competition for these roles when they do open.

my question is, would it be wise to stay here, or try to move to different roles with different companies ? i don’t want to be stuck as a grunt, but they also pay their seasoned “grunts” 6 figures here, so i’m conflicted.

TLDR: current job is basic IT and i want to move to network or cloud security but job pays too well
