Privacy question &/ How do you keep track of your records?
I just finished up a call to participate in a study. It would require releasing my records to them. I’ll be assigned a study ID so they wouldn’t be linked to me.
First of all: normally, I would read over the privacy disclosure & make a decision, but chemo brain means I’m not as smart as I usually am. So just to check myself before I sign something away that I don’t mean to - is there anything I should be keeping an eye out for in terms of protections on things like this? Or on the flip side, anything to be wary of seeing included?
Adjacently, this is the third institution this week that’s needed my records (a lawyer; social security). I’ve signed releases, but word on the street is that it’s faster to send things in yourself (because we don’t have enough to do right? & tons of energy to do it with? Sigh). If I’m getting it for one place, I may as well get it for all of them…but I’ve had various things treated at 4 hospitals, so whatever I do, I’d like for it to be as efficient as possible. Like, did you go in person & get it on a CD? Have you set up all your notes & results to go to an online archive somehow so you have a record in real time? Is there a way to just hit “export all to PDF” from mychart? How do I not have to tackle this over & over for the next however many years every time an institution needs my records, which apparently happens much more than I would have anticipated?
