How long to wait for a second interview?

Hi all, so I am currently in an interview loop hell. Had an initial interview with a recruiter which went surprisingly well. It has now been 4 weeks and the position he is recruiting for the people basically went AWOL. The recruiter actually gives me fairly detailed weekly updates to the fact they just haven't done anything regarding him trying to place a candidate. I tend to believe him based on the fact they legitimately contact me often and send personal detailed emails. The role is a more senior position paying better, but at a smaller firm in tech. How long do I wait before abandoning this opportunity regardless?
