For 3 years, my husband and I volunteered for an organization called Magic Wheelchair. The kids, and experience, was absolutely incredible, and was a huge part of how we bonded our newly blended family.

Now, Im the one with the "magic wheels", and looking back on these pictures, Im filled with the most bittersweet emotions. We poured our hearts, souls, blood, sweat, and tears into these builds, and I poured my little remaining time in functional body, and I had no idea. Im being told that my desire for basic mobility and freedom is "excessive", that Im "giving up" on mobility, but if anyone able-bodied knows the freedom that a wheelchair can provide, it was me. I still dont use my chair as much as I SHOULD, because without my power assist wheels (Im still waiting for delivery of them), its still exhausting to get around, but I already have so much more freedom than I did before.

I dont know. Maybe I'm trying to get over internalized ableism. Maybe Im missing the body that let me make things like this possible. But I wanted to share with the only community that may understand the mix of emotions.

Thanks for listening.
