I built a writing platform for stories, characters, worldbuilding, timelines, and creative inspiration — I’d genuinely love feedback from writers
Hey everyone,
I’m a writer and web developer, and over the past several months I’ve been building something called StorySmith.
The idea came from realizing how fragmented the writing process can become. You write in one place, build characters somewhere else, keep worldbuilding notes in another app, use something different for timelines or maps, and eventually end up with pieces of the same story scattered everywhere.
I wanted to see what would happen if those pieces actually worked together.
StorySmith now includes tools for:
- writing and organizing stories
- guided character development
- guided location and world development
- world atlases, story maps, and timelines
- visual references for characters, locations, and worlds
- The Forge, which provides creative prompts and possibilities when you’re stuck without writing the story for you
- an Idea Vault for saving concepts you may want to develop later
- targeted editorial tools for things like pacing, character motivation, reader confusion, emotional impact, and developmental review
- a Writing Academy with lessons designed to help writers improve
- progress milestones and achievement badges
- writing challenges and expanding community features
One of the biggest principles behind StorySmith is that the writer should always remain the creator.
The purpose of the platform is not to take over the creative process. It’s to give writers better tools for developing their own ideas, staying organized, working through creative blocks, and going deeper into the stories they want to tell.
StorySmith is live now, but it’s also very early, which is why I’m posting here.
I’d genuinely like feedback from writers rather than just assuming I know everything writers need, from just my own writing view.
Would a connected system like this actually be useful in your writing process? What would you want it to do that your current tools don’t?
I’m continually developing StorySmith around real writer needs. Members can submit feature requests, and as the community grows, those requests will help influence where the platform goes next.
One other thing for anyone who really connects with the idea: I’m offering 100 Founder memberships, and there will never be more than 100.
It’s a one-time payment for lifetime StorySmith access — no recurring subscription — and Founders get a permanent role in the community, including voting on which requested features get developed first and early access to beta-test new features before they’re released to everyone else.
I’m hoping the Founder group becomes more than just “early customers.” I want them to help shape what StorySmith grows into.
If you want to take a look, it’s at:
There’s a 7-day trial if you want to actually explore the platform, but even if you don’t, I’d still genuinely appreciate thoughts on the concept and what you would want from a writing system like this.
Thanks for reading — and especially for any honest feedback.
