I am looking for productivity tips for 5s.

Advice Wanted

Productivity may have negative connotations, really a better word is "prolificity", or creating a large body of work.

In any case, I want to improve my efficiency. That is, if I start the day with 100% energy, I want as much of that energy to be converted into output as possible. I'm talking more about creative projects and career interests more than chores or busywork for its own sake.

I get very little done. The only reason I get by in college is because I minimize everything else in my life, go to college as little as I possibly can, and crash when I get home. Usually I spend the rest of the day in bed with a fan, drifting in and out of sleep. At college, I feel on edge and like I'm going to completely collapse, kind of like when you are coming down from an energy drink. I usually have to lie down underneath stairwells and use my backpack as a pillow between classes.

I'm a huge night owl and my natural state is to stay up all night and sleep during the day so it's difficult to function sometimes.

When I'm free, I have a bunch of ideas but I hardly complete any of them or have them materialize as finished projects or contributions. For one thing, if they're not original enough or lack an interesting insight to share they go to the chopping block. I'll kind of be on the verge of publishing it and then think there isn't anything super novel about it. It's not very fun to post something everyone already knows. It needs to be so concise that it's intuitive or so original that it adds a layer of depth to the subject.

Another thing is that my head is swimming with a bunch of things I "should" be doing. For instance, I have to email professors with the distant hopes of getting a referral, build a social network even though people make me anxious, bulk up my resume so I'm not left in the dust, study a bunch of books to get more of an intuition for my major (since I picked something I was curious about with good job prospects but unfamiliar with). So it's like sapping my energy all the time, but I keep trying to distract myself from it. I maybe do any of this stuff like 5% of the time.

So I'll usually just focus on absorbing my attention in something else so I don't have to think about what's really causing me stress. Even though I'd say "on paper" I'm doing sufficiently well. Not great, mind you, but just enough to not sabotage my chances or future career. Most of my time is doing stuff that takes a moderate degree of mental effort but doesn't really serve me practically.

Really what I want is to retire early. So I'm going to try and make as much money as I possibly can before 35 or 40 and then retreat. I kind of want to be a "wanderer" or people watcher. Walking around Seattle in the rain and things like that, and just collecting my thoughts in complete peace.
