Title: I’ve been stuck between 400 and 1600 DPI for 1.5 years and I don’t know what to do anymore
Hey guys,
I’m currently stuck in a pretty stupid but honestly frustrating DPI crisis, and I’ve been dealing with it for around 1.5 years now.
Basically, I keep going back and forth between 400 DPI and 1600 DPI, and I just can’t seem to settle on one.
I’ve been a huge Shroud fan since 2015. Back then, he was using 400 DPI, so I decided to try it myself. I ended up sticking with 400 DPI for over 10 years, and it became what I was used to.
The thing is, I don’t only play CS2. I play a lot of different games — CS2, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Deadlock, Diablo, LoL, other FPS/hero shooters, and a lot of single-player and casual games. So I’m looking for something that feels good and consistent across a lot of different games, rather than just finding the perfect setup for CS2.
Then last year, I started reading more about modern mice, newer sensors, and high polling rates like 4000Hz and 8000Hz. I kept seeing people say that higher DPI, especially 1600 DPI, makes more sense with modern mice and high polling rates.
I also found out that Shroud had switched to 1600 DPI, and because I’m such a huge fan of his, that got into my head as well.
Since then, I’ve basically been switching between 400 and 1600 DPI over and over again.
And honestly, I feel like I’ve messed with my muscle memory quite a lot because of it. At this point, I don’t even know what I’m actually comfortable with anymore. After switching so many times, both DPIs can feel right or wrong depending on the game and the day.
I know this probably sounds ridiculous to some people. It’s just DPI. But for some reason, it has been taking up way too much space in my head, and I just can’t seem to let it go.
I’ve asked friends, posted on forums, and looked through countless discussions, but I still haven’t found an answer that helps me decide what to stick with. Some people have even laughed at me over it, which obviously hasn’t helped.
So I’m just wondering:
If you were in my situation, what would you do?
Would you completely forget about what Shroud uses, what pros use, polling rates, sensors, etc., and just pick one DPI and commit to it?
Or would you stick with something like 1600 DPI and give it a few months without changing anything, just to let my muscle memory settle again?
I genuinely don’t care anymore whether 400 or 1600 is technically “better.” I just want to pick one, get comfortable with it across the different games I play, and finally move on from this.
I’d genuinely appreciate any advice.
