Considerations when looking for breast reconstruction surgeon
I am looking into options for reconstruction but am curious what other have looked for in a potential surgeon or clinic. Did you exclusively consider or contact surgeons with a background in reconstruction, or did you consider or work with surgeons who are more experienced in general augmentation? I am currently trying to work with the hospital where I had my mastectomy done as their plastic surgeons have experience with reconstruction, "top surgery," and with augmentation, but I am wondering if I should try casting a wider net for options as I explore what might be possible for me. I also have yet to see any examples of work by any of their surgeons, other than "top surgery" results. There are reputable plastic surgery clinics near where I live, but I don't know if this type of clinic is a legitimate option for this circumstance.
Obviously having a surgeon experienced in the surgery I had previously would be beneficial, but looking at basic augment results, I am realizing that many women have augments starting with very little breast tissue. Having had a mastectomy for "aesthetic" purposes rather than an aggressive cancer removal leaves me unsure what to expect. I am also aware that some clinics might just be uninterested in getting involved in a detransition case. Just curious how other went about inquiring with surgeons.
