Worried about possible Massachusetts abortion laws changing in the next few weeks
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice/reassurance because my partner and I are pretty stressed right now.
We’ve had sex a few times where the condom broke. We tried buying stronger condoms afterward, but unfortunately had it happen again. After all of this mess is over, we are going to look into copper IUDs as we want to be extra safe.
For emergency contraception, she took Plan B once and Ella twice on separate occasions. The most recent time the condom broke was August 9. At this point, we’re basically waiting to see what happens.
We already have a plan. We’re going to wait about 2 1/2 weeks and take an at-home pregnancy test, and then test again at planned parenthood or any clinical test around 3 weeks after August 9. If it’s positive, we plan to get an abortion.
The thing that is really stressing us out is everything we’ve been hearing recently about Todd Blanche and possible federal restrictions on abortion pills/mail-order mifepristone. We live in Massachusetts, so I’m wondering how realistic it is for the abortion laws/access here to change significantly within the next 2–3 weeks. I’m guessing that nothing major could realistically happen that quickly, especially since Massachusetts currently protects abortion access, but I’d really appreciate some informed opinions because we’re anxious and don’t know how much of what we’re hearing is an immediate concern.
We’re also considering ordering abortion pills ahead of time just in case she is pregnant, so we have them available, but if everything stays legally accessible, we’d prefer to go through Planned Parenthood.
TLDR: Is there any realistic possibility that Massachusetts abortion access or our ability to get medication or suction abortion through a provider could change between now and the end of August/beginning of September?
