game crashing / freezing / stuttering

Hello, I am trying to play Baldurs gate 3 with my girlfriend.

First off: my components:

Tomahawk B650

AMD ryzen 7 9800x3d

Nvidia rtx 5070 TI

32GB Patriot VIPER VENOM DDR5-6000 DIMM CL30 Dual Kit

My first start of Baldurs gate 3 I selected dx11. The game started up and I had choppy music and the game froze when I was prompted to do the HDR settings. The game froze for 10-50 seconds and then every few seconds another freeze, some short some long. After that went horribly I got into the main menu where I couldnt press anything either since it kept freezing. It did not crash at all though. After suffering through like 5 minutes to get to the main screen I tried alt f4ing since my pc went unresponsive.

After that I restarted the pc since Windows went completely unresponsive.

After the restart I updated my GPU drivers since I suspected this might cause issues. I restarted the pc again.

This time I started bg3 on vulcan and the game took like 20 minutes to load shaders before opening. I waited through though and it seemed to have worked. I was invited to the group, pressed ready and went into the character creation screen.

Now it began again, every time the game tried to load anything (like pressing a different race) the game froze for like 10-50 seconds randomly. I powered through until my whole pc froze and windows once again went unresponsive. I had to press the power button to kill it since it really didn't react at all anymore.

After the restart the pc was funky aswell, probably because of the power shutdown which I know isn't good but was last resort.

Is this a common issue or does anybody have any advice for me? I'm currently verifying game files on steam but honestly I don't have high hopes and man does it take long to go through 140+ GB of files.

Would love any help since I really want to try the game but haven't even been able to create a character. Side note: every single game I usually play (world of warcraft, marvel rivals, league of legends, valorant, counter strike, battlefield 6 etc.) works without problems and my pc is really well equipped I think.
