I swore Ergo was my endgame. I was wrong.

Not long ago I was convinced symmetrical mice were a trap. Years of GPW/GPX use left me with palm and finger strain, so I went back to my roots with the EC2-DW and called ergo my permanent endgame, I was wrong.

Turns out symmetrical shapes weren't the problem. Forcing a claw grip onto a shape that doesn't support it was. When I tried to keep my natural claw grip on the EC2-DW, the strain was still there. The ergo contour was fighting my grip, not helping it. That sent me to the Zowie U2-DW, and it completely changed how I think about this.

I have 19 x 10cm hands, relaxed pincer claw hybrid. Previous mains were the EC2-A, GPW, GPX, and EC2-DW. Coming from an Artisan Zero Soft on the pad side.

Zowie U2-DW was designed for claw grip from the ground up, and it shows the moment you pick it up. The inward curve on the sides gives your thumb and ring/pinky fingers a natural resting spot instead of forcing an awkward pinch angle.

Since switching, my hand strain is just gone. Going back and forth with the EC2-DW made it obvious that for a relaxed pincer claw, a shape actually built for clawing beats a traditional ergo contour by a wide margin.

The coating is classic Zowie matte, grippy even in long sweaty sessions without ever feeling tacky. Clicks and scroll are crisp and tactile, nothing mushy or vague about them. And the enhanced receiver doubling as a charging dock is a genuinely nice touch — battery management basically disappears as a concern while signal stays flawless.

Coming from the Zero Soft, the Key-83 feels noticeably smoother and faster. Glide is effortless but you still get enough control for the small adjustments tactical shooters demand.

Everyone online pushes the Mid base for the Key-83, but I haven't run into the bottoming-out or inconsistent glide people warn about on Soft. The cushioning stays consistent and it's genuinely comfortable under the wrist. And the U2-DW's stock skates pair with this surface really well right out of the box, smooth from the first swipe with no catching or scratching. The purple colorway is just a bonus at that point.

**TL;DR**
If you're a claw or pincer-claw gripper dealing with pinky or palm strain on standard symm shapes like the GPX, don't write off symmetrical mice entirely. You probably just need one shaped for clawing.

U2-DW: 10/10 shape execution for claw grip, great coating, rock-solid wireless setup, zero fatigue.
Key-83 Soft: faster and smoother than the Zero, and the Soft base fear is overblown.

Don't let broad labels like ergo vs symm decide your mouse for you. Listen to your hand.
