Do I really have adhd?
Hi, my name is Andie, I’m 31 and 2 weeks ago I got my unofficial adhd diagnose.
From the beginning: after 5 years of transactional analysis therapy I decided to go to this therapist who is specialised in body therapy and ibs and many other things. Just from our first appointment and few questions he suggested that I might have adhd (he also has adhd and asd).
I felt relieved at the beginning, but now I’m a little bit confused…. I have been to a lot of trauma since I was adopted, went through orphanage and a family that neglected me until the age of 5 and then I was with my adoptive family and my life got “easier”.
I know that I struggled my whole school years: I was slower and “different” from my other classmates. For me studying and doing homework was huge task and I couldn’t never remember the stuff the way I wanted and forgetting always something. I struggled a lot with relationships too.
But somehow I don’t have all the common adhd traits like, I’m not the most organised person and I don’t always clean my apartment, but I can keep up, I don’t forget appointments (I use the calendar on my phone), I don’t do lists. I don’t and never took medications. I always forget something if I don’t see it. I walk fast and used to talk even faster.
I have a lot of anxiety sometimes… I always feel like agitated, I have a very restless mind, apparently I fidget a lot with my hands- I pick/bite the skin around my nails (I thought it was just anxiety), I have sleeping problems (I find it hard to fall asleep). I HATE waiting!! I hate waiting for an answer and I barely forget to answer to my friends (because I know what it feels like to not getting or waiting for an answer) I had a lot of RSD (which I thought it was because of my abandonment issues)
I don’t know if I have or had the hyperfocus,, I mean I always used to do my homework in the night before going to sleep and I used (now it got better) to get obsessed with people, which I found out it’s called limerence. But idk if I ever really got obsessed with something…
I can’t say no! I’m a people pleaser.
I forgot the most important maybe but yeah I used to daydream A LOT when I was little and now I find it hard to follow a conversation. When there is a group of people I shut down because I want to listen to everyone and I can’t follow through.
I can go on and on, but I always thought that this was all because of my cptsd…. I know that the 2 can coexist, but
my question to you is: is it possible to live with adhd without medication? I don’t really feel the need to get medicated. Maybe I say this now because I have a very good job, I know I used to struggle a lot and once I even got fired (because I was distracted and used to forget things), but I was also very anxious to get inside of that building because I was afraid I had made a mistake and I felt unsure!
Thank you so much for readying and to the ones who will answer to me!
