I charted the average lifespan of fill weight vs fill power, and the results are pretty wild.
I’ve spent years selling bedding, and one thing I’ve noticed is how often people treat fill weight and fill power like they mean the same thing. They really don’t.
Fill weight is simply how much filling is inside. Fill power tells you more about the loft and insulating ability of that fill.
When I started comparing what customers bought with how long those products actually stayed comfortable, the pattern was interesting. Higher fill weight didn’t automatically mean longer life. In fact, some heavily filled products lost their loft faster because the filling was lower quality or became compressed and clumped.
Higher fill power tended to hold its loft better, but even that isn’t magic. Washing, moisture, compression, storage, and construction make a huge difference.
After enough years, my biggest takeaway is simple: don’t judge bedding quality by one number on the tag.
A well-constructed product with good fill and proper care can easily outperform something with impressive specs but mediocre materials.
The numbers matter. The whole construction matters more.
