Is this normal?

So I recently got hired at this advisory group. I was pretty excited about it especially since I’ve been looking for a job for what feels like forever. Anyways, I was told in my final interview that I’d start on the 13th (today) since sometimes the background check can take a bit. And on all of my onboarding files it had August 13th as my start date. So after uploading my required documents and starting the background check I had gotten an email from the woman who hired me that stated:

“Thank you, I have received your documents and got your background check started by sending the company your information. They will be contacting you shortly. They are called Your HR Partnership Inc. Once the background check is completed, I Will reach out to you to schedule a start date.”

The background check completed on Monday (the 10th) and I sent a follow up email confirming she had received the information and told her I was looking forward to the next steps.

I hadn’t gotten any word back, so this morning I called both the main line and the hiring managers line but was sent to voicemail. Ultimately, I decided that I would just show up at the time discussed prior just in case. Well, the office was locked (it normally is). I knocked a few times and waited about 10ish minutes until I left.

I’m just posting to make sure I didn’t mess anything up. It was never explicitly stated that today was tentative. But now I’m worried what if somehow I was supposed to be there and I just hadn’t waited long enough 😭
