I’ve got a physical in a few days. Any tips on self-advocacy?
Exactly what it says on the tin. I’ve been stressing about this stupid physical for the past week bc I know most people, including and especially healthcare professionals, look at me and make assumptions based on a stereotype. I almost always try to find a way to work my career into the conversation at appointments so they don’t assume I’m a stupid lazy loser (I’m a lawyer, and yes I get the irony of needing advice on self-advocacy). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. In my experience docs tend to be a mixed bag in how they react to me as a person in a larger body
So does anyone have any ways they respond to medical fatphobia in the moment? I know my weight is going to come up but I want to be prepared to advocate for my right to effective healthcare and basic respect even though not everyone thinks I have those rights ¯_(ツ)_/¯
