Hello r/haircare! I need some advice on changing my hair routine and image. My questions are - 1) have you chosen to become someone who styles their hair after previously never doing so? And 2) is it worth investing time in styling my hair if I commute everywhere by bike and wear a helmet?

I am someone with long hair, but I'm tired of it and want a change! That being said, I am very active (read: daily sweaty, helmet hair) and have never styled my hair regularly before at any point. I'm worried about adding something into my busy morning routine. I'm thinking of doing a bob a few inches above my shoulder and styling it to flip out at the bottom (a bit like this old haircut I had through most of high school, but I'll keep my current bangs).

I like how this hairstyle looked on me, and I didn't do any styling at all! However, I'd like to go for something a bit more elevated and ensure I'm really getting the shape I want. I purchased a flat iron and watched some bob styling videos to learn how to do a style I love.

However, I'm worried that having a cute, styled look will not work out for me for the above reasons: building a new habit and riding my bike. I commute via bike to and from my job every day. I wear my helmet and I feel like it might be a huge mistake to get a haircut that requires styling and then squash it under my helmet. I don't want to come out looking like Lord Farquad. I also love sleeping and hate waking up early, is anyone in the same boat but learned this new habit in order to have great hair? I always get compliments on my hair but I do want it shorter and I need some advice if this will fit my lifestyle!

How can I become someone who styles her hair daily?
