Why do some Wonder Woman fans find Tom King's run disappointing?

I have read this subreddit's rules

Just wanted to get some perspectives from longtime Wonder Woman fans.

I'm relatively new to Wonder Woman comics. So far I've read runs by George Pérez, Greg Rucka, and Phil Jimenez. I recently caught up on all 35 issues of Tom King's current Wonder Woman run, and I'm left feeling a bit conflicted.

The first 10 or so issues really pulled me in. It felt like King was trying to present a darker version of Diana while still keeping her core ideals intact. But after that, my interest started to fade. The Mouse Island arc felt somewhat straightforward and lacking in momentum to me. And so far, the Matriarch storyline feels like a lot of buildup without a particularly strong payoff. Every time it seems like we're about to get major revelations or a dramatic shift in the status quo, the story ends up feeling smaller than the setup suggested.

I'm curious how other readers feel. For those who are dissatisfied with King's run, what do you think isn't working? Is it the characterization of Diana? The pacing? The heavy focus on Trinity and the future timeline? Or is it something else entirely?

I'd love to hear different perspectives.
