Blue Collar American Job Hunt Rant
I've been living in Japan since February on a spouse Visa. It was a lot of work to come out here and move with my daughter, wife and cat from America. I've been having a bad time finding work as a blue collar worker out here and where I'm located in Kyoto. (I'm near Yase Hiezanguchi, far north Kyoto city.) I never expected it to be easy; especially at my Japanese level which is only around N5 despite me studying for years. I completed a month and a half class specifically for Japanese at work, which I'm glad I did but I'm still so anxious using much other than simple phrases somehow (I'm naturally socially anxious already). I've checkout all the different English formatted job sites (trust me I have...Yolo Japan giving me the most success) and even others in Japanese too (Indeed, Ninja). I've gotten a handful of interviews and I have a 2nd interview soon thankfully, but it'll require me to get my driver's license first...which is a huge can of worms. But that may be my final hope it feels.
I worked in a couple factories the last 10 years and the last 3 as a factory lead in America in a very fast-paced environment. I'm a grinder. I'm company first. I do what I'm told. But I just get so anxious I can't speak much Japanese I've studied so long for. I just need a foot in the door to get my feet under me and really feel like I'm safe enough to work on improving daily and not trying to only survive. I know I can contribute but there's no opportunities for guys like me (and I get why there's not, I'm in Japan and it is what it is). I'll move to another nearby city if I can use a dorm. I can work construction, restaurants, hotels, factories, labor...whatever it is. I just need a real chance at full time to actually have a chance at starting my life here. Even if it's a 2 hour commute.
Luckily, I do have a part-time job now but wages are so tight here, that the impact isn't helping my draining bank account much. I need an opportunity soon or I fear I'll have to move back to America by myself for the near future. My daughter is young; I don't want to leave her to just hand my family a paycheck for who knows how long. I really want the best for her and idea was to let her go to school here. Sorry for the pity party or complaining fest, that's what it took me to post at all, but hopefully that's not how it reads. Hopefully it's readable at all, I don't write very often ha.
I would deeply appreciate any connections anyone may have. But it's a long shot and I'm not expecting anything, but I just wanted to be heard really. Rant over.
Thanks for even reading this far if you have. Much love.
