What is something you believed as a kid?

I genuinely believed unicorns were real when I was little 🦄

Okay, I need to know if I was the only kid who genuinely believed that unicorns were real.

And I don't mean "I liked unicorns and wished they were real." I mean I was CONVINCED they existed somewhere in the world and that adults were simply hiding the truth from us. 😭

When I was younger, I thought unicorns lived in really remote places that humans hadn't properly discovered yet. I remember thinking that if you went deep enough into a forest, climbed high enough into the mountains, or found some secret hidden meadow, you might eventually stumble across one.

And obviously, in my head, unicorns weren't just regular horses with a horn.

They were these beautiful, magical creatures that lived peacefully in hidden forests, surrounded by flowers, waterfalls, glowing plants, and tiny streams. I imagined them having incredibly soft coats, enormous fluffy manes, and horns that could apparently do basically anything magical.

The funniest part is that I thought there had to be evidence somewhere.

I would see pictures of unicorns online or in books and think, "See? That's proof."

If someone told me, "Those are fictional," I would immediately think:

"Well, obviously you're saying that because you've never seen one."

💀

I even had an entire explanation for why nobody had discovered them.

I thought unicorns were intelligent enough to hide from humans.

Like, if a group of scientists got close to their habitat, the unicorns would somehow sense them coming and disappear into the forest before anyone could see them.

And if someone DID manage to take a photograph, I thought people would just assume it was edited.

So basically, I had already created an entire conspiracy theory at the age of about seven. 😭

I also believed that there were different types of unicorns depending on where they lived.

There were white ones, pink ones, rainbow ones, dark ones, and ones with different coloured horns. I thought some were incredibly rare and that seeing one would basically be the greatest thing that could ever happen to a person.

At one point, I genuinely believed that if I ever found a unicorn, I would have to be extremely quiet and calm so it wouldn't get scared and run away.

I even imagined what I would say to it.

Not that I had a plan beyond:

"HI!!!"

Because apparently seven-year-old me had absolutely no idea how to approach a mythical creature. 😭

And the WORST part?

I remember being genuinely disappointed whenever someone explained that unicorns weren't real.

I didn't immediately accept it either.

I was basically thinking:

"Okay... but how do YOU know?"

Because honestly, that was my entire argument.

You can't prove unicorns DON'T exist.

And technically, little me thought that meant I had won the debate. 💀

Looking back now, I think it's actually kind of sweet how seriously I believed in them. Childhood imagination makes the world feel so much bigger. A random forest isn't just a forest anymore—it could secretly be the home of an entire hidden civilization of magical creatures.

So I'm curious:

Did anyone else genuinely believe unicorns were real when they were younger? 🦄

Did you think they lived somewhere specific?

Did you believe they had magical powers?

Did you ever go looking for one?

Did you think adults were hiding them from everyone?

Or did you have an entirely different childhood explanation for why nobody had ever found one?

I NEED TO HEAR YOUR STORIES because I refuse to believe I was the only child running around thinking there was a secret unicorn kingdom somewhere. 😭🦄✨
