Did anyone find out the reason behind the women’s “safe hand”?

I was so bored through Wind and Truth that I did not care about any suspense or mystery by the end.
None of the threads were resolved, and I no longer care about any of the plots or emotional journeys that were setup.

But this one question haunts me.
