AITA - lawn clippings

Asshole

My husband mows our lawn, and I genuinely appreciate that he does. If the responsibility were left entirely to me, I would probably hire a neighborhood kid to do it. Our lawn isn't even that big, but I really struggle with the sound of the mower.

There is just one small thing I ask of him when he mows: please remember to blow or sweep the grass clippings off the sidewalk when finished.

To me, that's just basic courtesy. It's our grass, and the sidewalk is for everyone. I personally feel disrespectful leaving our lawn clippings all over a public walkway for our neighbors to walk through. It's such a simple thing that takes a minute or two.

The problem is, every time I politely ask him to remember, he takes it offensively and gets annoyed with me, as though I'm criticizing him or somehow diminishing the fact that he mowed the lawn. That's not my intention at all. I'm grateful that he does it. I'm simply asking him to finish the job by cleaning up what ends up on the sidewalk.

And yes, I can—and have—gone out and cleaned it up myself. But am I really the asshole for asking my husband, after he mows the lawn, to please clean the grass clippings off the sidewalk?
