Where to start?

As someone with a Finance degree with some basic accounting knowledge but no prior work experience. Where do I start? I've been searching for a while now. I've been told to wait till August- October. But honestly do firms really hire associates for the current year in preparation of tax season? Most of the positions I see are either senior level or 2027 positions. If anyone have any advice it would be greatly appreciate. No need to sugar coat anything. Just honest advice.
