This NYTs Daily podcast that just came out today made me realize something, a big part of the problem liberals have is just the framing, which I think is super suiting the socialists right now. Framing this as a fight between \*Progressives\* (valence good) and the \*Establishment\* (valence bad) obviously favors socialists since they get to wear the label of progressive while distancing themselves from the stodgy old "Establishment".

The fundamental problem with this framing is it obviously begs the question and also distorts the reality that there are both progressive socialists and progressive liberals and they aren't always aligned. A good example of this is how Black Democrats seemingly don't align or vote with "Progressive socialists" nearly as much as socialists would like. You can take that and think maybe black people are more conservative or more reactionary than the "Pure progressives", or you can take it to mean that black people have a rich tradition of *liberal progressivism* and don't particularly like socialists who discount race entirely from their lens of analysis.

The framing of "Progressives vs. the Establishment" is damaging because it isn't justified or even true. Joe Biden was the most progressive president in our lifetimes because he promoted actionable and realistic policies that actually did something. Showboats like Bernie TALK big but do almost nothing, are they really more progressive and do they actually deserve that label?

It isn't Progressives vs. the Establishment it is Socialists vs. Liberals
