What is your nParent's origin story?
For my Nmom, she grew up dirt poor until she was six. Her mom left her biological dad for another man she was having an affair with. From six onwards, my grandmother and step-grandfather left my mom wanting for nothing. She had nice possessions, grew up in the idealistic small-town America on a big farm, and a mom who did anything for her special baby daughter. My grandma usually took my mom's side when conflict rose between her 4 siblings. My mom considered her mom her best friend and my grandma clearly played favorites with her kids. My mom was also pretty so she was constantly showered with praise by men who bought nice things or did things for her. She still talks about those old boyfriends 50+ years later. She had lots of friends, although anyone who disliked her was "jealous" over her looks or money, according to her.
She's lived a long and increasingly bitter life because she thinks anyone who doesn't shower her with praise is a bad person. Yes, even her kids, thus why I'm here. The friend circle she had? Gone because they didn't sympathize with her enough when my grandma died four decades ago. My mom brags about not talking to her siblings before they all passed and was almost giddy when her last sister died of cancer. Like being the baby of the family and outliving her siblings was an accomplishment instead of just expected odds.
