Possible parallels between Sheary, Dess, and Kris?
Okay, so I haven't seen anyone bring this up, but I was stricken dumb by a small detail that I never noticed before after playing Chapter 5. I'll go down the list of items:
Ice Skating and Dancing
This is a sheary:

And this is Kris' pirouette pose:
https://i.redd.it/0f0iywfsx6jh1.gif
Notice the EXTREME level of similarity between the two. The only real difference is one arm being in a different position for Kris. You could chock this up to being just a basic dance move that looks the same no matter who does it, but I'll also point out that Shearies and the Pirouette act appeared in the same chapter.
So that's one Kris parallel. But this also counts as a Dess parallel. Why? Shearies are scissors. That may seem unrelated, but the point of scissors is that they are a type of blade. It is clearly intended that you see their legs as their blades. Now, what form of dance is done with bladed feet? And in the same manner as the Shearies dance? Ice skating. Who is related to ice skating and skating in general?
* (It's Dess's bed. Underneath are army rations, guitar picks, paintball gear, ice skates...)
That's right, it's Dess. I'll go another step further. Here are various ACTs you can perform on Swatches to change their temperature:
* Talked about the color of the summer sun shining on a beach ball.
* Talked about the steam of a fresh hot chocolate.
* Talked about the warmth of a loving embrace.
* Talked about the crunch of the last pickle in the refrigerator.
* Talked about the chill of the wind on the ice skating pond.
* Talked about the snow matted on your brother's nose.
Notice something interesting about these acts: All of the cold ones relate to the Holidays. The last pickle in the fridge, which you can see in the holiday manor's kitchen fridge. The chill of the wind on the ice skating pond, which dess has skates for. Snow on Asriel's nose, notably from a winter they spent with the Holidays who are crazy about winter. Even the warm ones are somewhat related, with hot chocolate often being associated with the winter time and its associated holidays. Loving embrace? The two families were close, so of course they'd exchange hugs. The beach ball? Well, hometown only has one beach, and noelle reminisces about playing on it. Clearly the two families spent a lot of time there.
So there you have it, Dess has ice skating as a theme which the Shearies parallel with their bladed legs skating on the ground while doing pirouettes, which are also an ice skating maneuver, and which Kris can do.
But I'll take YET ANOTHER step further...
Similarities to the Knight
Let's take another look at the Sheary and place it side by side with the knight.

Noticing the similarities? Both the knight and Sheary have the same artistic style with the solid black with white outlines. They both have nearly identical leg poses. Their anatomy is very similar. The Knight even looks like it's ice skating while doing its sword slashes.
It's no secret that the single best popular knight candidate is Dess. This alone doesn't strictly support that theory, but if Dess IS the knight, this similarity to the knight means that it counts as a Dess parallel. Also of note is that one part of the Sheary's head looks similar to the knight's visor.
Another interesting thing to note is that the Knight, Tenna, and Sheary share a VERY similar attack: The smash cut. They're the only three enemies in the entire game that literally cut the battle box in half for an attack. It bears a greater similarity to Tenna's version, but it's worth noting due to the nature of the attacks all being the same. The knight is just more violent and quick about it.
Speaking of its head, though...
Suspiciously Snout-shaped Head
This is one of the things I only noticed after fighting the Shearies in Chapter 5. Take a closer look at their heads:
Now, imagine for a moment that the Sheary is wearing a common winter implement: A beanie. The black segment near the back top is the beanie. The white beneath it could be seen as the knight-like visor, goggles, or face shadow like Kris has. The white on the lower part could be hair (We know from her silhouette that Dess had short hair), and the other white part could be a part of the hat or representative of antlers. The longer black segment looks particularly like the snout of a monster, specifically of the deer variety.
The design of the head makes a lot more sense when you imagine it as a figure looking up while touching their chin.
Yes, I'm saying that the head of Sheary might be an indication of Dess's style. We all know there've been several Dessigns that utilize beanies and face shadows. We know almost all of them have short hair.
The most curious part of this is that the head of Shearies don't resemble any part of scissors or shears. I'm personally counting this as a potential Dess parallel.
Why Noelle?
An interesting bit you may have missed or skipped over in Chapter 5's Sheary fight is that their quotes directly reference all of the present characters. All except one. Noelle.
Kris: Short-Hair? Long-Hair? No-Where?
Susie: Wash-hair? Hair-wash? Car-wash?
Ralsei: Hot-Shave? Hot-Wax? Hot-Shock?
Noelle: Snow-Flake? Snow-Flake?
Why on EARTH would Sheary reference Noelle when she isn't there? I get that the chapter has tons of unused Noelle dark world content that was clearly intended to be used in the first draft of the chapter, but why the hell wouldn't the Noelle quote be removed in the final product if it didn't serve some purpose? Why are the Shearies aware of Noelle enough to reference her so directly? You don't need Noelle in your party to get "Snow-Flake" either, it's entirely random.
Picture that. The suspiciously Dess-shaped darkner mentions Noelle who isn't there. It has a snowflake pattern around its text box. The suspiciously Dess-shaped darkner with other parallels to her. Noelle's sister. In a dark world made by Kris. I get that Noelle is mentioned by other darkners in the same world, but those are all the FLOWERS, who have undoubtably been around Noelle before enough to know her, and Susie is open about her love for her. But Shearies? They're just random ass gardening shears. What attachment would they have to Noelle that isn't colored almost entirely by Kris being the fountain maker?
Are you seeing it? I admit, this one is a bit of a weak point, but it is extremely suspicious. But in mentioning Kris...
The Darkness Which Colors Them
So, we all know Kris made the flower king dark world. That much is obvious. But the person who made the Card Kingdom fountain (where we last saw Shearies) is less obvious. The important part is that BOTH fountains contain Shearies almost entirely identical to each other, only difference being they can only be directly fought in chapter 5. This means whoever made it must have the same type of will as Kris.
Kris, of course, has the same will as the Knight. Otherwise their dark worlds would be fairly radically different from what we normally go through, as seen with when Susie made hers. This means that there are only TWO candidates for Card Kingdom's creation: Kris, and the Knight, who we have already established might be Dess.
Supporting Kris as the originator is the fact that when you first save in the dark world, it's in the dark cliffs section before you first meet ralsei, and you save over Kris' file. This means that Kris has been here before, and that lands them squarely in the sussy baka zone.
Now, another strange thing about Card Kingdom is that it actually has THREE MORE PARALLELS WITH DESS AND THE KNIGHT. That's right, THREE. They are:
- Seam
- The Shadow Mantle
- Clover
Yes, I know, that third one is the odd one out. In fact, I'm going to address that one right away by linking to this video which explains Clover's parallels to Dess better than I can.
For the Shadow Mantle, it is mentioned specifically by Seam and is theorized to be the cape that King wears in his fight, which flies off into the distance after you defeat him. The shadow mantle, of course, is related directly to the knight as you need it to stand a chance at normally beating it in Chapter 3. You also get it from a darkner whose battle theme is VERY suspiciously identical to an 8-bit version of Black Knife, the knight's theme.
As for Seam... we'll get to them in the next segment. For now, understand that Seam, what is supposed the Shadow Mantle, Clover, AND Sheary all first appear in the Card Kingdom dark world, in what is presumed to be Gerson's old classroom (another knight parallel since they opened the dark sanctuary fountain). All of them, together, colored by the same darkness, which was made by either Kris (who was close to Dess because their families were friends) or the Knight (who is theorized popularly to be Dess or at least has her memories).
I'll also note that King, Seam, and Jevil all mention the knight. Jevil spoke directly to them, King was influenced by them, and Seam saw them. This is all evidence in favor of the knight making this fountain, and what we know about fountains the knight makes (as evidenced by Cyber World) is that they all have small hints and parallels to Dess in the form of environmental markers, locations, or darkners who imprinted on her.
All those things alone aren't noteworthy, but I think that together, they paint an extremely vivid picture of the influences that made the Shearies. I'll also note that to further the Dess symbolism in Card Kingdom, the scarlet forest trees are all repetitions of the forgotten man tree which is the tree Kris drew while going to therapy to cope with what happened presumably during the incident that caused her disappearance. If the rest of this wasn't enough for you.
Moving on to Seam...
Dess can sew?????
So, Shearies are both garden shears and scissors, colored by the same darkness (Kris/the Knight's). They appear in a classroom and at the flower king dark world. Scissors used in classrooms are related to arts and crafts, being frequently used to cut paper and fabric. What darkners do we know who are related to fabric?
That's right. Seam. They're a plush toy made of patchwork fabrics and buttons, found in what we can assume is Gerson's old classroom, in the same dark world that we just discussed has so many Dess parallels, who often spouts a bunch of ominous bullshit about shadow crystals, the shadow mantle, the knight, and Kris' past. All of these things are directly related, by the way. They also curiously say that the mantle belonged to them before someone took it. That someone most likely being King, as he, Seam, and Jevil were all in the same court. The mantle, which is also likened to a piece of frabric and allows you to resist all of the knight's attacks.
So, we've got Seam's whole thematic toolbox sorted out. One interesting thing about them: Buttons. A button. Specifically, the one they're MISSING. Where else in the game can we find buttons? Well, there's only one as far as I'm aware. And it's that damn box in Dess' room.
* It's a box of odds-and-ends. Dig through?
* You dug through the box and found...
* A couple of burnt lighters, rusted multitool knives, expired rations,
* Walkie talkies, loose binoculars, a pair of shoes fit for hooves,
* Violent comic books, paintballs, a cracked hockey mask, frayed yarn and buttons,
* Your brother's retainer, and old mint cans with unique leaves inside of them.
Frayed yarn and buttons, huh? That sounds an awful lot like a certain cat we know. In fact, given one more small fact we know, I think it solidifies the link between Seam and Dess. That being on Asriel's computer. Susie comments on it in chapter 4:
* HAHAHA!!! WHAT IS THIS COMPUTER WALLPAPER???
* What AGE did you and your brother draw this at!?
* Glad we didn't go to THIS Cyber World! Haha, what the hell?
* Hey, and in the corner, that's that cat thing from Castle Town!
* You know, the shop thing! The... cat... the stitch thing! Whatever.
This indicates that Seam had some kind of connection with Asriel. Asriel has a strong connection to Dess. Seam, rather than being some premade plush toy from a store, looks like a toy that was lovingly hand-crafted, and not very skillfully at that. Something that someone who's just learning how to make things like that would make. And given the only person in the entire game who has any kind of connection to crafts and buttons and materials so far is Dess... Well, I think the safest and most direct assumption we can make here is that Dess and Asriel made Seam way back in the day when she was just learning how to do more advanced crafts like that.
So there's your Dess and crafts connection! And of course, this all links back to the Shearies because... well, combined with all the previous evidence and... How the hell is she gonna cut the yarn she's crafting with if she doesn't use scissors? A knife? Haha... Well, you can see it now, can't you? Even if there isn't a pair of scissors directly in the box you find the yarn and buttons in, I think it's safe to say that she'd just use any she could find.
I think it's also worth pointing out that if Seam is also what Dess and Asriel called them, that name would require some knowledge of sewing and crafts to make. They had to have some knowledge of it.
Conclusion
This actually ends up connecting way more together than just Dess and Sheary. But I think I've mostly concluded every single point that could possibly connect the two. I just find it very interesting, that such a small darkner could point to so many things that I never really noticed before and recontextualize all of it so clearly.
One other thing I'll note: It would be rather fitting if the older sibling figure in Noelle's life also frequently cut her hair. Big sisters do tend to do that, and younger ones tend to ask as a form of bonding. This would explain why Sheary's quotes are so commonly about haircuts. Dess also does seem like the type of kid who would've cut their own hair purely out of rebellious defiance. It just passes the vibe check for me.
I think that just about covers it. What do you think? Are these parallels frighteningly convincing to you too, or am I reaching? All I know is that if we see Shearies skating on a frozen lake in chapter 6 or if Dess canonically wears a beanie, I'm going to feel very vindicated.
