Getting to Alaska Status Match Through Bridging with OW Airline to United

Hi all,

Has anyone had success bridging a status match from a OW airline to United/Delta/etc to Alaska? Alaska's website says "Complimentary status or status earned through a promotion do not qualify" and I want to be clear on what consititutes that before I attempt this.

And, yes, I know that having status with a OW airline gives me benefits with Alaska. The challenge is since it is an international airline, keeping status is harder than it would be with Alaska since I live in an Alaska route heavy area.
