Is "Learn German" a Good English YouTube Channel, and Are My Resources Good?
I like to self-reflect on what I'm doing with my German from time to time lol, so I wanted to ask you guys if I'm actually on the right track.
A little background
Meine Muttersprache ist Arabisch. I'm also around C1 in English (IELTS 8.0) und B2 in French, so German is my third foreign language.
I've always been a fan of the German language and culture, and I've wanted to properly learn German for a long time.
I started learning German last August, but unfortunately I got stuck around A1 because of school, moving between cities, and a lot of other things that kept distracting me.
I've now been back on track for 15 days, and since it's summer, I'm averaging 25 hours per week
Once October comes and I have school again, I want to keep it sustainable at around 20 hours per week.
My goal is to reach B2 by the end of summer 2027.
My current resources
I'm currently using:
DW / Nicos Weg
Easy German — I'm going through their A1 playlist right now, and I absolutely love it.
VHS-lernportal
The thing I'm wondering about is Learn German. I find it useful, but it feels like it's mainly focused on grammar. Is it actually a good channel to use as one of my main resources, or should I treat it more as a supplementary grammar resource?
I'm also looking for more native German content that I can gradually grow into.
I know I'm only A1 right now, so I'm obviously not expecting to understand native content perfectly. I'm looking for things I can start introducing now and eventually use more heavily around A2/B1/B2.
I'm interested in basically anything:
Vlogs / everyday life
Gaming
History
Science
Documentaries
Commentary
Culture
Podcasts
Just entertaining German YouTubers
Basically, I want to eventually get to the point where I'm consuming German because I actually enjoy the content, rather than constantly feeling like I'm doing a German lesson.
So what native German YouTube channels would you recommend, especially ones that are good to grow into from A1 → A2 → B1 → B2?
And finally, does my current resource setup sound reasonable? Am I missing something important?
I'm trying not to fall into the trap of collecting 50 different resources instead of actually studying 😂
For anyone who has gone from A1 to B2 through self-study, I'd especially love to hear what worked for you.
Danke!
