Budget traveler and new AAdvantage Platinum cardholder. Is main cabin even worth it?

I Need Help!

I just got the Citi AAdvantage Platinum card because it's free for the first year and has a signup bonus.

I'm a budget traveler. Whenever I buy plane tickets I sort by cheapest and travel with whatever airline has the cheapest ticket that doesn't require more than 1 connection. I've travelled with low cost carriers like Frontier, but also with "proper" airlines like AA whenever they were cheaper.

Now that I have the card, I'm looking into buying a plane ticket for domestic travel, and it turns out that AA is in fact the cheapest. But only for Basic Economy, Main cabin is 100$ extra.

So since I'm platinum and whatnot now, I'm wondering, is there even any point in "upgrading"? The only benefits I'd get for paying 100$ more is a little bit more legroom (unless someone else took that first) and the possibility of maybe getting upgraded. Which I doubt will happen since I'm just a platinum cardholder and not an actual frequent flyer.

Is there anything I'm missing? I'm struggling to see how this is worth 100$
