Don't think for a second that the free hundo Mewtwo was charity. Billion dollar company is not your friend, and they have exactly one goal. Always.
They gave it a month after the GO Fest. They gave it unannounced. Why? Just as a nice surprise? As a compensation for the New York Times Square that got people mad? No.
They gave it to maximize the revenue from players raiding Mewtwo. Nothing deeper or more complex than that. If we knew beforehand that we'd get a hundo Mewtwo handout, why would've we raided nearly as much, if at all?
Also, it was a month later, to ensure that everyone has already used their resources to build their best Mewtwo. Why is that important? Well, because now we have the free hundo, but no resources. Whatever shall we do???
Luckily, there happens to be a weekend-long GO Finale coming up, where you can Raid for Mewtwo _again,_ even if you thought literally yesterday that the finale looks underwhelming. And people DID think this, the response to the Finale content was super disappointed.
Is this a bad thing, then?
Well, everyone got a free hundo Mewtwo. You can think it was a good thing, you can think it ruined Mewtwo chasing forever, these are opinions and everyone has one.
In the end, Scopely did absolutely masterful job with this whole GO Fest Scheme: they milked Mega Mewtwo to absolute perfection, threw in a freebie to milk it even more, and they managed to get the players sing THANK YOU to them while they spend even more.
Well played, Scopely 👏🏼
