The world's on fire right?
I just need to vent a little and I've never actually done much with Reddit before but have lurked for a while so if anyone can understand my frustration then people on Reddit can.
I feel I need to give context for my thoughts and feelings so please bare with me as I try to articulate my feelings.
I live in the North East of England and for 20 years of my life it's been typically very wet but a very temperate place to live but the last ten years it's been getting hotter and hotter and every year the grass has been yellow for longer and longer like the visible signs of the climate crisis are here and now. I remember growing up and there would be yearly snow like in my childhood which is only 20 years ago every year without fail snow and then slowly year by year it was less snow or it stuck around for less time to now there's years where we get no snow at all not even proper frost on the ground.
The analogy of the frog in the boiling pan always comes to mind to me that it just becomes the new normal, I think about the kids that are born today they'll assume this is how it's always been they won't know any different so I think what must of it been like for my parents or my grandparents how much wildlife have we lost how have we as humans effected the biodiversity of our environment. I've heard my grandmother say often when she was younger snow every year without fail never more birds in the sky.
So we are now at a point where it isn't even a matter of debate the world is literally on the brink of some very awful things happening in our environment. We have seen more wild fires than ever before but right at this moment we can still do something collectively to end it but because of the inherent greed of people with so much power and wealth they keep denying it, I just can't grasp in my head at what point does it take for us collectively to go ahh guys this really bad we need to do something? I thought it would have been you know the fires. Does it have to get to the point of famine, even more extreme drought even more deaths before we try to fix it?
Is no one else sick of living with the existential dread that actually we might be one of the last generations of humans. We have so much knowledge yet I've always lived with the knowledge that unless something changes it's gonna be the end of our species. I don't want to live in ignorance but it would be nice to know that our own self destructive tendencies won't be the death of the species.
I just feel frustrated that nothing drastic is being done. How do you get humanity as a whole to work together. Is everyone else just going about normal life waiting for the penny to drop? How are you dealing with all of what's going on in the world?
